The appropriately-named Prime Defender and Look Left were among the winners at a UNISON-sponsored day at Doncaster Races on Saturday 30 July.

The union sponsored all seven races on the card, including the Speaking Up For Public Services Handicap Stakes. Over 3,500 tickets were sold to UNISON members and their families who boosted the gate to a bumper 13,500. 

As well as promoting the Million Voices for Public Services campaign, UNISON members also got thousands of racegoers to signing up to the union's Fair Pensions For All postcard campaign.

"It makes me proud to see so many of us and our families enjoying ourselves at an event like this as part of the wider UNISON family," said Yorkshire and Humberside regional secretary John Cafferty. "It sends out an unmistakable message that we are united and committed to each other and to protecting jobs and services. We work together and, on occasions like this, we play together and that’s why we stay together."
