We are here to help you, so that you can concentrate on the other vitally important aspects of representing our UNISON members.

As the inhouse Print and Communication Department of the Yorkshire & Humberside Region, we offer services that Branches can rely upon to deliver quality work on time. Of course most of the services come at a price - a reasonable price - get in touch to discuss your requirements.

What do you want to do?

Branch Newsletter
A branch newsletter is essential. It's a way to get all sorts of information to members. It has the advantage of giving a consistent message - everyone gets the same information. Often, especially when the branch is short of stewards or where members are scattered in small workplaces, it will be the only regular contact the member has with the branch.

All you will need to do is supply us with the stories (in Word format), let us have any photographs you would like to include, and we will do the rest! We will design, print and either send them to the Branch for you to distribute yourself, or mail them out direct to your members.

Most branches produce 4, 8 or 12 page newsletters with a mix of local branch news and national topics.

Organise a local Campaign
It is important to think about who your target audience is and what you want to communicate. Obviously it is up to branch activists to agree on a campaign plan, but it's probably worth getting in touch with the Print Unit to see what is possible, or how other branches who face similar issues dealt with them.

Branch website
Are you thinking of developing a website but don’t know where to start?
Have you got a website, but keeping it up to date is a problem?

We offer Branches their own website, designed and maintained by the Print Unit. Your website will offer members a convenient way to access useful Branch information - such as contact info, Branch news, maps etc. All you will need to do is provide up to date content and we will update the site for you.

Recruitment materials
Face-to-face recruiting has proven to be the most effective way to attract new members. Keep and use UNISON recruitment materials, and consider producing your own to supplement these. We have helped Branches develop attractive recruitment materials which help give stewards a 'foot in the door' at recruitment events and inductions.

AGM Notice & Branch Officer Ballots
Branches hold Annual General Meetings to:- 1) ensure that the branch is organised and administered effectively 2) keep members informed of the work of the branch 3) give members a voice in running the branch 4) enable elections to take place

All members should receive adequate written notice of the meeting, and, if contested, take part in a Branch Officer election

The Print Unit can:-

  • Print Election Addresses for Branch Officials
  • Print Branch Officer Ballot Papers (& number them for security)
  • Provide Pre-paid return envelopes to encourage membership participation
  • Mail out all of these direct to your members
